Daikin has recently supplied two air-cooled chillers form the TZ Series for an industrial project involving a big tobacco factory, which needed the right chiller solution to refurbish the HVAC plant.

About the project
HVAC system refurbishment was the aim of this project, which required to replace two chiller unit with two Daikin air-cooled screw inverter chillers, to meet the energy efficiency and reliability expectations of the customer.
The chillers will be used to cool down the industrial plant, where high heat from the equipment used in the manufacturing process needs to be dissipated, to maintaining raw material stocked at a temperature that allows to preserve its qualities. Another area that will be served by the new HVAC system is the office building next to the factory.
The main goal of this project was providing the HVAC plant with two reliable and energy efficient air-cooled chillers which could meet the cooling needs of the industrial plant, plus offices and warehouses, helping the customer having lower operative costs.
The single screw compressor technology had a big role in this, and will allow the end-user to benefit from the energy savings ensured by the perfect variable load management offered by the screw inverter compressor.

The TZ units instead will be serving manufacturing facilities, warehouses, and offices, where load variation is an important topic.
Despite process applications or projects requiring the cooling of industrial machineries are usually characterized for requiring constant cooling loads during the year, that does not mean the chiller will operate in the same conditions throughout the whole year. In fact, to ensure that the load request in a process application is always satisfied, the chiller is designed to provide the proper cooling capacity in the worst operating condition for the specific climate region (design conditions). But while the load request is constant during the year, the ambient temperature is not.
The unit selected will be able to provide the needed capacity at design condition, but for most of the year will operate at different (more favorable) outdoor ambient temperature conditions than those specified as design conditions. This will require the chiller to operate at part load during most of the year and this is exactly why Inverter technology will help optimizing energy consumptions adapting the chillers effort to the actual cooling demand.
Besides energy efficiency, reliability was another very important aspect, because having a reliable solution was fundamental to ensure that both the comfort and the process cooling needs of the project are met with no interruption.

Daikin screw compressor, differently from a standard screw compressor, uses one main screw meshing with twin star rotors to produce volume matching compression cycle. Due to the main rotor, balanced in both radial and axial direction, the compressor bearing has extremely high reliability. Therefore, its life span can be longer than other screw compressors. The single screw compressor, then, has only three moving parts. As a result of that, it reduces the possibility of failure and keeps operation costs low.
