The new Daikin J Series has been recently introduced in Daikin Applied Europe product portfolio. With this renovated range, Daikin offers new solutions for the water-cooled units’ segment, adding new low GWP options for the water-cooled compact line J Series, which already offered R-134a as a refrigerant choice.
More specifically, this new line offers very compact and reliable solutions with the choice of low environmental impact refrigerants such as R-1234ze and R-513A, which will bring enhanced flexibility to the series, making it suitable for a wide variety of applications.
Especially with the R-1234ze refrigerant, which, thanks to its extended envelope, will be able to satisfy high temperature heating applications both in stand-alone arrangement and in cascade system with an Air to water heat pump.
Let’s dive into the products of the series
The new EWWS-J- and the EWWH-J- are water-cooled heat pump units reversible on water side, featuring respectively R-513A and R-1234ze refrigerant. These units share the same traits of the whole J family – compactness, efficiency and reliability. Also, these heat pumps, thanks to ability to provide 75° C condenser leaving water temperature, can help meet the heating and hot water needs of a wide variety of building types.
Then, the new EWLS-J- and the EWLH-J- are water-cooled condenserless units featuring respectively 513A and R-1234ze refrigerant. These units share the same traits of the whole J family – compactness, efficiency and reliability. Also, these heat pumps, thanks to ability to provide 75° C condenser leaving water temperature, can help meet the heating and hot water needs of a wide variety of building types.
As mentioned, the choice of R513A or R1234ze refrigerants, other than R-134a, is one of the most important new features in this new series.
The R-1234ze refrigerant provides customers with a very low GWP (7) alternative for their projects, also allowing to take advantage of financial incentives, or other opportunities of that nature, that promote the use of more sustainable and energy efficient Air Conditioning equipment.
The R-513A, then, other than being an environmentally friendly refrigerant with a relatively low GWP (572), it is a A1 classified refrigerant, meaning it is a Non-flammable refrigerant, which allows to comply with any safety standard.
Reliability is another important characteristic of these products. That mostly comes from the long-established technology used in units featuring R-134a and the in-house developed Daikin single screw compressor, then optimized and improved to work with low GWP refrigerants such as R-513A and R1234ze.
But compactness is the characteristic in the series that first meet the eye. That allows this series to be a relevant option for all those applications requiring small footprint of the units, so they can fit small and narrow technical rooms. That can include marine applications, thanks to the marine version, which ensures the units meet all the requirements of this specific application.
Another important characteristic of the new J series, then, is the new controller Microtech4, which, thanks to a new control logic, brings in so many new functionalities. Like the integration of the iCM directly in the unit’s controller, for instance.
A management system by Daikin
The new J Series offers among the many options that make this unit an extremely flexible option, the iCM Intelligent Chiller Manager. It is an in-house developed system control aiming to optimize the performance of groups of chillers. The iCM harmonizes the way every single chiller in a plant operates, allowing them to reach their goal with minimum effort, both in terms of energy consumption and mechanically. All this, of course, translates into chillers’ increased durability and efficiency, generating operating and maintenance cost savings, plus increased attention towards the environment.
Daikin On Site
The J Series perfectly integrates with Daikin on Site. An innovative remote monitoring tool for chiller plants, providing information with a unique level of detail. DoS allows plant owners to take preventive actions, tracking units and components behaviour and monitoring their correct functionality. All this allows to plan avoid extra costs associated with breakdowns and downtime.
Also, Daikin On Site provides 24/7 real time data, all year round, allowing to create periodical reports for an in-depth analysis of the plant performance.
