Daikin has recently supplied a, air-cooled screw inverter chiller from the TZ range to a prestigious medical clinic in Italy. The  project aimed at refurbishing the cooling plant, with and efficient, reliable and immediate solution.

About the products and the project


As part of a mechanical upgrading project, the hospital decided to rely on Daikin’s experience and made-in-Italy products, to make the cooling plant as reliable and efficient as possible.

For this project the customer needed a solution ensuring reliability and durability despite 24/7 operations, high seasonal efficiency to meet both energy efficiency and environmental sustainability targets, ease of maintenance, and easy integration with the existing plant through the control solution.

The unit supplied to meet all of the mentioned needs was a chiller from the TZ Series. A Series designed to combine the proven reliability of the Daikin screw inverter compressor and the high energy efficiency – especially at part load –offered by the refrigerant cooled inverter designed by Daikin.

About the efficiency, Daikin managed to meet the requirements in the project thanks to a solution which takes advantage of the Inverter technology and ensures the best performance, regardless of the cooling demand of the building.

In fact, thanks to the inverter technology, the TZ chillers installed will be able to match the different loads requirements, in any circumstances. The Inverter will continuously modulate the speed of the compressor’s motor, ensuring excellent capacity control, providing outstanding part load efficiency values, and substantial energy savings..

When it comes to single screw compressor chillers Daikin has a history of leadership. In fact, this compressor technology has been chosen for projects all over the world for 20 years.

Daikin screw compressor, differently from a standard screw compressor, uses one main screw meshing with twin star rotors to produce volume matching compression cycle. Due to the main rotor, balanced in both radial and axial direction, the compressor bearing has extremely high reliability. Therefore, its life span can be longer than other screw compressors. The single screw compressor, then, has only three moving parts. As a result of that, it reduces the possibility of failure and keeps operation costs low.

Besides reliability, then, Daikin has ensured integrability with the existing system thanks to the Daikin control iCM, which will allow the chiller to effectively communicate with all third-party components in the system.

And as far as monitoring of the system, Daikin on Site has been included in the offer by Daikin, supporting facility managers with their job.

Daikin On Site (DoS) is a remote monitoring tool, that can provide 24/7 real time data, all year round, tracking chiller plants operations and their correct functionality. All this to allow plant owners to take preventive actions and avoid extra costs associated with breakdowns and downtime.

From a plant manager perspective, Daikin on Site can be beneficial in so many ways.

Every time there is an alarm, plant managers can easily recognize the problem and find the right solution. Through this platform they can evaluate all the parameters in real time and if there is a need for any settings adjustment, they can act remotely. All of this allows to improve units’ performance and management, planning preventive maintenance and increasing systems’ reliability.
