Daikin has recently supplied a chiller for a big hospital in Oman. The hospital’s capacity ihas been extended with the opening of a new wing, which required the HVAC system to be integrated with a new chiller, to meet the greater cooling needs of the building. For this project, reliability and advanced technology that could perfectly meet the needs of the facility were a must.

About the products and the project
For this project the main needs were reliability of the new unit, which will be operating in a high temperature (between 46 and 52 degrees Celsius) and corrosive environment, being the hospital located close to the sea.
Reliability in that kind of environment is vital, especially for a chiller serving a hospital. But besides reliability, energy efficiency was another very important aspect, which led customers to choose a screw inverter unit, able to ensure high energy efficiency levels at all times.
Last but not list in the requirements of the project, there was footprint, which Daikin managed to meet supplying a unit that could offer the needed cooling capacity and efficiency levels in a smaller footprint than competitor’s offer.

The unit supplied to meet all of the mentioned needs was a chiller from the MZ Series. A Series designed to combine the proven efficiency of the Daikin screw inverter compressor – especially at part load – and the reliability offered by a design that integrates refrigerant cooled inverter directly in the compressor. This feature allows the electronics of the Inverter to be cooled by the refrigerant in the chiller’s circuit, protecting the inverter from ambient temperature, altitude, presence of pollutants, dust, or sand in the air.

Besides that, the MZ Series is specifically designed to perfectly operate in Middle East environments and be able to stand, not only high heat in the environment, but also corrosive elements, which are common in such areas of the world.
About the efficiency, Daikin managed to meet the requirements in the project thanks to a solution which takes advantage of the Inverter technology and ensures the best performance, regardless of the cooling demand of the building.

The Daikin screw compressor, besides being well-knows for efficiency, offers great reliability. In differently from a standard screw compressor, it uses one main screw meshing with twin star rotors to produce volume matching compression cycle. Due to the main rotor, balanced in both radial and axial direction, the compressor bearing has extremely high reliability. Therefore, its life span can be longer than other screw compressors. The single screw compressor, then, has only three moving parts. As a result of that, it reduces the possibility of failure and keeps operation costs low.
