CHALLENGE & SOLUTIONS

HVAC system refurbishment was the aim of this project, which required replacing two chiller units with two Daikin air-cooled screw inverter chillers, to meet the energy efficiency and reliability expectations of the customer. The chillers will be used to cool down the industrial plant, where high heat from the equipment used in the manufacturing process needs to be dissipated, to maintain raw material stocked at a temperature that allows preserving its qualities. Another area that will be served by the new HVAC system is the office building next to the factory. The main goal of this project was to provide the HVAC plant with two reliable and energy-efficient air-cooled chillers that could meet the cooling needs of the industrial plant, plus offices and warehouses, helping the customer have lower operative costs. The single screw compressor technology had a big role in this and will allow the end-user to benefit from the energy savings ensured by the perfect variable load management offered by the screw inverter compressor. The unit selected will be able to provide the needed capacity at design conditions, but for most of the year will operate at different (more favorable) outdoor ambient temperature conditions than those specified as design conditions. This will require the chiller to operate at part load during most of the year and this is exactly why Inverter technology will help optimize energy consumption by adapting the chiller effort to the actual cooling demand. Besides energy efficiency, reliability was another very important aspect, because having a reliable solution was fundamental to ensure that both the comfort and the process cooling needs of the project are met with no interruption.
